Many around the world have felt the need to assist people living in poor communities who are desperately in need of help, and now, particularly those devastated by Covid-19 pandemic.

Often the trouble is finding an organisation you feel is suitable to donate to! That’s where Carers Unite NPO comes in… We are an advisory bureau which acts as an intermediary between the giver and the recipient. We are here for everyone who cares about doing the right thing but doesn’t know where to start.

We give impartial advice on the many caring organisations we partner with, and ensure that the donation you offer goes directly to the people who need it.

Carers Unite has been a personal journey for me and here is my story.

Hi, I’m Nicole. I care deeply about a course of action which unites people to make the world a better place. To me, this means not just talking about it but doing something about it. 

Many people make an enthusiastic start only to discover that much more planning and effort is required, and they become dispirited and slowly give up. Sound familiar? I too found myself in the situation of wanting to help and reaching out to organisations, but either got no response or was told they didn’t need volunteers. Where to now? Praying gave me the strength to keep pushing forward, and I started making contacts in the non-profit world in Cape Town to get ahead. That turned out to be the best idea, so when my mentor told me “Nicole, stop everything. You need to earn your stripes.”, I did.

I threw myself into the deep end… I started home-based caring and a senior support club in Mitchells Plain, I got involved in a tutoring programme run for children living in foster care and also started organising events for them. After helping out a safe house, I just kept meeting new people who introduced me to more organisations. I helped everyone I could along the way.

With lots of advice and mentoring sessions behind me, in 2017 I started Carers Unite so that like-minded people can join forces to do good, and to provide an avenue to donate. During this process, I came to realise that there are many ways to give—some people prefer to donate money, others time, and many second-hand goods or food. Some will even share donation opportunities on social media. All of these are valid and appreciated ways of donating to an NPO and I wanted to make them all possible using Carers Unite.

Carers Unite fills the gap between the community member and the organisation they donate to. Services include:

• Collecting donations and delivering to specified non-profit organisation/s.
• Providing contact details for non-profit organisations who are in need of specific help.
• Partnering with individuals who have a fundraising idea.
• Partnering with non-profit organisations to create awareness around fundraising efforts. 
• Interaction sessions with seniors and disadvantaged youth

Why donate to Carers Unite?

The Carers Unite family consists of my family, friends and contacts I have built relationships with along my journey so far. We believe we can change the world a little bit at a time by showing kindness to people in need. We do this in simple ways like providing meals to the hungry, buying a birthday gift for a child, or spending time with seniors and taking them on adventures. Christmas is our favourite time!
